Canadian telescope detects ancient hydrogen to probe dark energy

Canada's CHIME telescope has detected faint radio emissions from hydrogen gas billions of years old, offering a cheaper way to investigate dark energy and the universe's expansion. The discovery, published in The Astrophysical Journal, bypasses previous reliance on other telescopes' galaxy surveys and explores larger cosmic scales.

This is a completely new technique for probing the cosmos, delivered by an instrument that was conceived, built and funded by Canadians.
