With Google sign-in we store your Google email address and account identifier and take your name from your Google account (you can change it under You); we do not keep your Google photo. With phone sign-in we store the number. In both cases we ask your date of birth — News Majlis is for readers 18 and over, and we check the date rather than ask you to tick a box — and a mobile number, and you agree that we use that identity, your name, where you live and where you are from, the languages you read and the topics you follow to build your feed. Sponsored stories are matched to that profile only if you switch it on in You → Privacy; otherwise they are chosen by your approximate country alone, like for a guest.
How often a story is shared and opened, and how often a sponsored card is seen or tapped — as totals, without recording who.
We do not store anything about you. Your approximate country comes from the network you connect through and is used only to choose which stories you see; it is never written to our database. A small cookie on your device remembers which free stories you have already read today so that the same ones are shown on a reload. It contains no identifier.
We hold the phone number or the Google email and account identifier you sign in with, your date of birth, the mobile number you give us (used for WhatsApp updates only if you tick that box, which you can untick at any time under You), the name you give us, the country and city where you live and where you are from, the languages you read, the topics you follow, the stories you save, and which stories were shown to you in the last few days (so that mornings do not repeat). This is used to build your personalised feed and for nothing else.
Our database is hosted by Supabase on Amazon Web Services in Singapore. Traffic passes through Cloudflare.
You can ask for a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account. Until the in-app controls ship, write to the address that will be published here.
