NASA's Moon Orbiter Spots Largest New Crater Ever Discovered

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter detected the largest newly formed crater on the Moon, a 222-meter-diameter impact named McGetchin. The crater, created by a comet or asteroid in spring 2024, represents a once-in-132-year event. Located on the Moon's eastern edge, it extends 141 feet deep and shows how the lunar surface undergoes constant change despite lacking atmospheric protection.
