ED referral opens new phase in Pinarayi Vijayan probe

ED forwards CMRL corruption findings to Kerala police for case registration

The Enforcement Directorate has referred its findings in the CMRL-Exalogic case to Kerala police under Section 66(2) of the PMLA, involving former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T Veena, and son-in-law P A Mohamed Riyas. The ED alleged CMRL paid Rs 2.78 crore to Exalogic Solutions without corresponding services and Rs 3.28 crore as illegal gratification. State police will independently assess whether the findings warrant an FIR.

It is only the ED's opinion based on its investigation, not a directive to register an FIR. As per law, the ED cannot direct a state to register an FIR.
