NIA arrests bank employee in Saharanpur counterfeit currency case

The National Investigation Agency arrested Amit Kumar, a bank employee and key accused in a counterfeit currency conspiracy at Punjab National Bank's Saharanpur currency chest. On August 29, 2026, ₹17.29 crore in counterfeit Indian currency notes were recovered. Three bank employees were suspended. The case was re-registered by NIA on September 3, 2026, with investigation ongoing to arrest co-accused persons.

The involvement of three employees of the bank also surfaced during the inquiry, and they were accordingly suspended by the bank.
