Closes 3,661 schools across Japan amid downpours
Over 3,600 schools across 11 Japanese prefectures closed due to heavy rain
Japan's education ministry confirmed 3,661 schools across 11 prefectures closed Monday due to heavy rainfall in eastern Japan. Chiba reported the most closures at 894, followed by Tokyo with 739 and Kanagawa with 646. Train suspensions affected over 140,000 people in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued Level 5 landslide warnings for Izu Island villages and Level 4 alerts for Chiba and Saitama.
