Kuwait integrates care for Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients

Kuwait's Health Ministry provides integrated care for Duchenne muscular dystrophy through awareness, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. A multidisciplinary team covers neuromuscular diseases, physiotherapy, cardiology, and psychological support. The ministry offers gene therapy for eligible patients and genetic counseling to at-risk families. Kuwait led the adoption of World Duchenne Awareness Day on September 7.

Care begins with identifying cases at outpatient clinics and conducting tests to confirm diagnosis before referring patients to the Kuwait Center for Genetic Diseases.
