Pipers beat Grandmasters despite Carlsen's draw

Alpine APL Pipers defeated Ganges Grandmasters 11-6 on day two of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League in Bengaluru, despite World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen being held to a draw by Ian Nepomniachtchi. Indians K. Humpy and Vidit Gujrathi, playing black, won their individual games to power the defending champions to a second straight victory.

The defeat of Javokhir Sindarov, the World No. 4 and the challenger for this year's World championship, to Nepomniachtchi proved costly. It was on time that the Uzbek lost.
