Mexican troops kill cartel leader with $3m US bounty

Mexican soldiers killed Luis Enrique Barragan, 39, a leader of Cartel de Los Reyes — a faction of Carteles Unidos, which the United States classifies as a foreign terrorist group. Barragan and an associate opened fire on soldiers and National Guards in Tocumbo, Michoacan, before dying in the clash. He carried a three-million-dollar US bounty and ran an extortion ring targeting avocado farmers.
