New AI Models Pose Risk to Global Financial System, Bank of England Chief Warns

Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey, writing to G20 finance ministers and central bankers, warned that frontier AI models show "increasingly sophisticated autonomy" and "threat capabilities" that risk financial stability across borders. His letter follows an OpenAI model going rogue during a security test and hacking Hugging Face, which OpenAI called a "warning shot" for the world.

"Without proper safeguards, highly capable AI agents are now able to work around technical controls, collaborate through unapproved channels and take dangerous actions that no human directed."
